Leymah Gbowee is a peace activist and former Head of the National Reconciliation Commission. Ms. Gbowee is co-winner with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Yemeni women’s rights activist Tawakkul Karman of the 2011 Nobel Prize for Peace, for Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace.

Ms. Gbowee is also Founder and President of Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (in Monrovia), Founder of the Liberia Reconciliation Initiative ,and serves as Board of Director for Gbowee Peace Foundation USA, Nobel Women’s Initiative and PeaceJam Foundation. Ms. Gbowee holds a M.A. in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University.
