Monrovia Liberia: House Speaker J. Alex Tyler Opposes Calls To Make Liberia a Christian state

Liberia House Speaker J. Alex Tyler has declared his opposition to calls to make Liberia a Christian state.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in Ganta on Sunday right after his tour of the south-eastern region, Speaker Tyler indicated that the country’s problem is not based on religion and, as such, Christianizing the state should not be the issue of Liberians.

Liberia’s challenges are not about religion and so I don’t want Christianizing the state to be our problem,” Speaker Tyler emphasized.

He advised that Liberia remains a secular state as it is, noting that Christianizing Liberia is a recipe for conflict.

Proposition 24 emanating from the National Constitution Review Conference held in Gbarnga, Bong County last year calls for Liberia to be announced a Christian state as part of a national referendum.
