12 Liberian Political Parties Join Forces Ahead of 2017 Elections

12 political parties have joined forces in Liberia to take on the ruling Liberty Party in the 2017 presidential polls, VOA News reports.

Prince Johnson, a Senator in the country confirmed the development while stating that the new coalition would seek peace and an end to violence across the state.

Liberia’s constitution prohibited President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from seeking a third time in office. It was, however, expected that her Vice President, Hoseph Boakai would contest the upcoming elections.

Front Page Africa reported earlier that the coalition met under the aegis Opposition Political Parties Collaboration Summit, with the leaders of the twelve parties banding together with a goal of effecting “tangible change” in the west African country.

Details on how the coalition intended to progress were set to be brought forward within the next sixty days, the report said.
