U.S. and African Award winning artist Akon will soon be in Liberia to promote his Akon Light Africa Project, which aims to provide a concrete response to Africa’s energy crisis as well as laying down a foundation for future developments.
Launched in 2014 by the singer, Thione Niang and Samba Bathily, the project aims is to build an innovative solar-powered solution that will end Africa’s demand for energy by providing access to a clean and affordable source of electricity.
According to a close source to Akon’s team on the ground, during his visit to Liberia he will be donating solar power materials to about ten schools in the country and also accessing the needs to expand the project in Liberia.
Materials that will be donated ranges from street lamps to domestic and individual kits among others and it is meant to easy the lack of electricity in Liberian schools. Also, Akon will be meeting with stakeholders from the Liberian business community to discuss wide range of issues as well as highlighting the importance for country to move to green energy,” our source said. Akon will be arriving in Liberia next week Wednesday.
